A world and a Canada where state-of-the-art educational resources are accessible to all.
Open Source Text Canada (OSTC) is a not-for-profit educational resource that supports Canadian education by providing free open source textbooks produced to the best standards of educational publishing. OSTC also pursues innovation in education through the development of new approaches to digital textbooks in partnership with the educational and open source software communities.
What We Do
Based in Toronto, Ontario, OSTC intends to be a central distribution and creation point for free digital textbooks and teaching materials, with matching print-on-demand files for physical books, covering Canadian K–12 curricula, university courses, and special education such as ESL. As well as its focus on reducing the cost of educational material in Canada, through the internet OSTC represents and offers the high standards and perspective of Canadian education to the world.
OSTC will use Canadian scholars, editors, proofreaders, and other publishing professionals to create open source teaching materials or adapt existing world resources to Canadian curricula.
OSTC will encourage teaching communities to take ownership of its open source titles. Any educational professionals or university students working towards their teaching certificates who wish to get involved are encouraged to contact us.
